A metropolitan maiden win was a great tonic for the owners of Fierce Command who had to be patient to see their talented colt salute, taking out the $30,000 Event Landscaping Solutions Plate (1400m) at start number five.

Being sent around as race favorite, the son of Commands certainly lived up to the wraps, going on to score in a canter by 4.5 lengths at Sandown’s Hillside course. Ridden by Peter Mertens, the three-year-old settled handy in the run from an inside alley and was able to put pay to his rivals quickly in the straight. Rising to the 1400 meters for the first time – it was clear the horse relished the distance and also once again the Heavy track conditions.

Second-up from a spell, Fierce Command put the writing on the wall with a solid first-up second at Cranbourne going down in a photo finish. His first campaign was also full of promise with good efforts at Cranbourne and Bendigo.

Purchased at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale, this stunning black colt looks to have a promising future. From the un-raced Octagonal mare Special Test, Fierce Command is a half brother to solid performers Rain Special and Rain Strike.

It looks like his connections are in for a great deal of fun in his runs to come.

Congratulations to the winning connections: Magic Four, Mr W G Clifford, Mr E Sakareassen, Mr W Smart, Mr M W Lowe, Mr K J Goodall, Mr W M Goodall, Mr B Jamieson, Mrs L M Jamieson, Mr B Vanderwyk
