Golden Kiss earned herself a reward for her honesty with her game on pace performance in the O'connell Motors Fillies & Mares 1100m trophy race.

Bad draws combined with luckless runs played against Golden Kiss in her three previous runs but the daughter of Golden Snake had produced solid performances in each of those starts.

Barrier one allowed jockey Patrick Keane to ride Golden Kiss positively to set the pace in the early stages with the aid of blinkers.

Keane set a comfortable tempo of Golden Kiss, leaving plenty in hand for a sprint to the line from the 400. Her effort to beat the older mares was more impressive than the narrow margin suggested.

“It was good to see her have a little bit of luck for a change. With the positive barrier draw for the first time this prep, allowed her to get into the race.

“She had to be tough over the last 150 metres to hold them off"
